Special characteristics:

Shi Mo Cha is a green tea specialty from the top of Wuxi Shan in a remote nature reserve in the Huang Shan region. It is produced in this form only in the mountain villages on Wuxi Mountain and mainly for home consumption and local markets on site. The plants of the Huang Shan Mao Feng are used for the production.
The special feature compared to the classic Huang Shan Mao Feng is the more elaborate manufacturing process for this tea. It gets its special shape, is more aromatic in taste and gets a dark color by processing. Our producer family (see pictures above) has generations of experience in the production of this variety. The fresh tea leaves are first spread by hand and lightly baled. This is followed by about 30 minutes of roasting by hand in a small pan while simultaneously pre-forming the tea with the ball of the hand. The leaves already lose a large part of their moisture here. The tea is then further roasted in a larger pan at about 80 degrees and thereby rolled to its typical curled shape.

Rolling in the heated pans slightly roughens the upper leaf structure and oxidation processes create new aromatic compounds for a brief moment. However, heating/roasting immediately stops further oxidation. The process requires a lot of experience. Attention must be paid to uniformity, the right roasting time at the right temperature. Because of the large amount of work, the tea is produced in the form mainly for own consumption.

Production and packaging:

Packaging sizes

100% handmade. We get this tea directly from small producers and tea farmers in China. The tea is grown and processed in a traditional way. Such high qualities are usually produced by the tea farmers only for the local Chinese market. Therefore we are regularly on site with the producers. The direct contact to the tea farmers enables us to offer very reasonable prices with outstanding tea quality. All our teas are checked for pesticide residues by an independent laboratory. We deliver the tea in re-sealable and aroma-safe stand-up pouches made of ALU/PE.
